An era has come to an end with the demise of Madhav Prasad Ghimire, a legendary poet of Nepali literature. With his demise, the oldest pillar of modern Nepali literature has fallen. He died at the age of 101 at his residence in Lanchaur, Kathmandu at 5:55 pm on Tuesday. He was buried at Pashupati Aryaghat on Wednesday by a detachment of the Nepal Army. The great poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Lekhnath Poudyal, Bal Krishna Sam, Gopal Prasad Rimal, and Siddhicharan Shrestha are the epoch makers who represent the whole stream of Nepali literature. Just as the great poets of the past had their own identities, so did the poetic style of Ghimire. He has not been able to stay in the minds of Nepalis because of the honorary title of 'National Poet' given by the government. For this, he has not only spent his invaluable time in literary creation, but he has also left many classic songs and poems for Nepal and Nepalis. Nepali literature has become an orphan due to his demise.

Having lived his full life, he has made a great departure by judging Nepal and Nepalis in literature. Ghimire, who was born in Lamjung's Pushtun district on September 26, 1976, had been suffering from respiratory problems for seven months at his residence in Lanchaur. National poet Ghimire, who was also an honorary assistant chariot of the Nepal Army, has been buried with national honors. Ghimire, who lost his mother at the age of three, learned the alphabet at the age of six and studied at various Sanskrit schools from Queen's University, Benares. Most of his works, which made a leap in Nepali literature through his first work 'Navamanjari' Khandakavya, are classic and popular. Although many authors have been representing their time in Nepali literature, he has taken leave by making the identity of the author to represent the contemporary to the present. He composed 'Nepali Hami Rahaunla Kahan', 'Gaunchh Geet Nepali', 'Phoolko Thunga Bager Gayo', 'Aajai Ra Raati Ke Dekhein Sapani', 'Jhamjam Pani Payo Asarko Raat', 'Sarangi Ta Rete Pani Bajch Mitho Dhun Dozens of classic songs have been resounding in the minds of Nepalis.

Mourning poems are considered to be the best among the works of Ghimire, a poet who has contributed to Nepali literature for ages. Dozens of his works including Gauri, Rashtra Nirmata, Dhartimata, Rajarajeshwari, Papini Ama, Kinnarkinnari (song collection), Malati Mangale, Shakuntala, Ashwatthama and Khandakavya and Chaitvaishakh poetry collection are catchy. His work in Ashwattha (English) was also recommended for the Nobel Prize. Although he wrote in the multi-faceted genre of Nepali literature, he considered his original genre as a minor work. He has made great strides in children's literature. Although his dream of publishing the epic 'Ritambhara', the last wish of his life, could not be fulfilled, his family members have stated that it will be published as the writing is almost complete. Even in the latter half of his life, his classical creations will fill the gap of the national poet who encourages the connoisseurs of literature through literary meetings and enthusiastic speeches. A heartfelt tribute to the century-old man and classic poet Ghimire, who departed by establishing a liberal and sophisticated image!
